Altoona, PA – Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission (SAP&DC), will be taking three regional companies; Curry Supply Co. of Martinsburg, PA, J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers of Somerset, PA and Penn Machine Company, LLC. of Johnstown, PA, to bauma – the world’s leading Trade Fair for Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines, Mining Machines, Construction Vehicles and Construction Equipment. Bauma is the world's largest trade fair in the construction industry which offers over 575,000 square meters of exhibition space and attracts about 3500 exhibitors from over 57 countries and over 535,000 visitors from over 200 countries. Bauma is held every three years in Munich, Germany.

“Bauma is an excellent show for companies to showcase their products and services to potential buyers from all over the world.  The State of Pennsylvania pavilion allows companies to exhibit together to showcase not only their company but what Pennsylvania has to offer,” said Tina M. Taylor, International Trade Manager at SAP&DC.

This is SAP&DC’s third time taking companies to bauma (2010, 2013, & 2016) with several companies being repeat exhibitors. “In addition to support of our trade staff, the added support from our Authorized Trade Representatives in Germany and the Netherlands, provides opportunities for pre-arranged vetted one-on-one meetings with interested potential new buyers. We look forward to the opportunity to bring new business back for these companies at the close of the show,” continued Ms. Taylor.

SAP&DC, along with Northwest Pennsylvania Regional Planning & Development Commission and Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance, are bringing a total eight Pennsylvania companies that will be exhibiting in the State of Pennsylvania booth.

Alongside the State of Pennsylvania booth at bauma, Core PA Global is having a booth focusing on direct foreign investment to Pennsylvania companies. CORE PA Global is an initiative focused on creating and retaining jobs in the 53 county Core Region of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through aggressive marketing to foreign investors and Pennsylvania companies ready to reshore their manufacturing back to the United States.

Our newest team member, Punxsutawney Phil, will be there to assist staff members representing Core PA Global to locate opportunities with international companies who are interested in foreign direct investment to the core region of the Pennsylvania   A likeness of the most famous groundhog in the world will be a giveaway in the Core PA Global booth. The Groundhog Day celebration comes from a German tradition, in which clear skies on Candlemas Day, February 2, were said to herald cold weather ahead. In Germany, the tradition morphed into a myth that if the sun came out on Candlemas, a hedgehog would cast its shadow, predicting snow all the way into May. When German immigrants settled in Pennsylvania, they transferred the tradition onto local fauna, replacing hedgehogs with groundhogs.
